One of the biggest Indo Russian defense treaty – India Alive
It was announced on Tuesday that India Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin will oversee the signing of one of the biggest Indo Russian defense treaty. In what is considered to be a huge increment in India’s defense along the borders with Pakistan and China, the one of the biggest Indo Russian defense treaty will provide India with S-400 air defense systems.
The S-400 missile defense system has been around since 2007 and has some mind-blowing features. The defense system can track up to 300 targets simultaneously and shoot down thirty-six targets at once and has a range of four hundred kilometers. The radars of the system are so sensitive that they are able to detect even stealth aircraft which is believed to be almost impossible to track for defense systems.
While speaking on one of the biggest Indo Russian defense treaty, Putin’s top foreign policy aide Yury Ushakoy told reporters that the president will be leaving for India on October 4 and that he would be overseeing the signing of the agreement. The value of the contract was also disclosed to be more than five billion dollars.
The defense contract though the highlight of the meet will not be the only thing that the countries will gain from it. Over 10 pacts in the civilian sector that include investments in the infrastructure sector and the number of other defense pacts are scheduled to be signed as well.
The biggest problem that is faced the one of the biggest Indo Russian defense treaty is the US law CAATSA that seeks to deter countries from buying Russian weapons. It was under this law that the USA recently sanctioned China for acquiring S-400 systems. India has given signals that it will ask the USA for a special waiver.
Russia has been India’s time-tested ally. Let us hope that the signing of the pact furthers the interest of both the nations and helps strengthen the existing relations even more.
